4th of July Pet Safety Tips!

The biggest summer kickoff holiday is approaching fast! This means fun for the whole family, but it also means there is more we have to keep an eye on- including our pets! In this blog post, we’ll go over some pet safety tips to remember this holiday weekend.

Prepare in advance:

  • Make sure your pet has updated tags - if they are lost, you want who finds them to be able to contact you ASAP!

  • If your pets are microchipped, make sure your contact information in the microchip registry is up-to-date (1).

  • Take a current photo of all of your cats, dogs and horses – just in case (1).

Safety During the Celebrations:

  • Never leave alcoholic drinks unattended where pets can reach them (2).

  • Do not apply any sunscreen or insect repellent product to your pet that is not labeled specifically for use on animals (2).

  • Always keep matches and lighter fluid out of your pets’ reach (2).

  • Keep your pets on their normal diet. Any change, even for one meal, can give your pet severe indigestion and diarrhea (2).

  • Keep your pets inside if you or your neighbors are setting off fireworks (1).

  • Keep sparklers, glow sticks, fireworks, charcoal and kabob skewers away from curious pets (1).

  • Loud, crowded fireworks displays are no fun for pets, who can become frightened or disoriented by the sound. Please resist the urge to take them to Independence Day festivities, and opt instead to keep them safe from the noise in a quiet, sheltered and escape-proof area at home (2).”

Licks Zen Calming Aid is great for use during holiday fireworks! It contains natural calming ingredients to help keep your pets calm and ease their fear/anxiety of the loud noises.

Simply give them 1 packet 20-30 minutes prior to fireworks, and repeat every 4-6 hours as needed.

It is safe to increase the dosage as needed, since our ingredients are 100% all-natural!
